International Charities That Fight Poverty
Poverty is a turnstile issue that is enveloping the global landscape. Despite the efforts of modern governments, a good number of the world population are suffering from it. Poverty is the state of being poor, with no material possessions, and capabilities to support oneself with little or no money at all. Because of poverty, various organizations have been established to help reduce the threat and help people escape from it for good.
One of the main reasons for poverty is unemployment. Most charities provide job opportunities for the poor, so they can have the capacity to support themselves. These organizations do not just spoon feed the poor, but instead provide them their basic needs along with encouragement, training, and instructing them how to work for their future. These charities support low budget companies to help them grow and create new jobs. With microfinance and training, families can use small businesses to earn their way out of poverty.
One of the international charities that helps uplift poverty is the Grameen Foundation. Grameen reaches out to the world’s poorest people in Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and East Asia. This foundation began in 1997 with a group of friends who were inspired by the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. Their goal is to empower the poor and give them opportunities to help them escape poverty. The Grameen Foundation helps the poor - mostly women - by installing financial services, small loans, and technology transfer. These financial tools can be used for the poor to help small businesses step out of poverty. Grameen also partners with microfinance institutions and supports them. These microfinance institutions, or MFIs, meet with clients daily and reach out to anyone who can benefit from microfinance. For them to be more efficient and effective, the Grameen Foundation supports the MFIs through funding, technical assistance, training, and new technology. This foundation uses technology in order for the MFIs to reach their full potential, create new business opportunities, and supply telecommunication access to the poor. They control the resources of local and international markets to bring new financial resources to the MFIs. They are committed to sharing their knowledge in order to build a wider microfinance community, as they also work with social businesses. Grameen Capital India and Grameen-Jameel Pan Arab Microfinance Limited are two social businesses that were launched from the support of the Grameen Foundation. (http://www.grameenfoundation.org)
Another organization geared to find solutions against poverty is the International Charity for Africa or ICA. It is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fight poverty by decreasing unemployment through creating job opportunities. Their headquarters are found in Ottawa, Canada. ICA provides business growth assistance to the poverty stricken nations of Sub-Saharan Africa. They work by affiliating with micro entrepreneurs to create numerous jobs for the Africans that will help them escape extreme poverty. They provide micro-entrepreneurs with all the resources they need to create more jobs.
ICA supports small-scale entrepreneurs by giving them financial assistance, facilitation, coaching, and market development for them to expand their businesses and provide jobs for the poor. They provide training for unskilled individuals to help them find and qualify for jobs. Their main goal is to decrease the number of jobless Africans from 400 million to 50 million in ten years. ICA focuses first on the most poverty stricken regions. This organization also helps the Africans alleviate grossly human conditions by providing HIV Aids support, school feeding programs, and disaster relief (http://www.igbocharity.com).
Tripura Foundation is another non-profit organization that was founded in 1989 by Dr. Baskaran Pillai. Tripura Foundation was created to destroy world poverty, and encourage the poor to strive harder for a better quality of life. This organization supplies the basic necessities of the poor, along with education tools and job opportunities. They motivate and assist people to become independent and self sufficient in order to be freed from poverty. Tripura Foundation works by recognizing what they need to provide for the people, for their bodies and minds. Then, they supply the people’s needs like education and the ability to have a brighter future. Finally, they provide job opportunities to have a better status in life. This is Tripura’s framework to help alleviate poverty.
This organization has had many successful projects on top of ongoing projects. Some of their successful projects include Sunday feeding at a neighboring slum, where they feed 50 children and a few widow women, a scholarship program for poor students, and tsunami rehabilitation. Tripura Foundation is currently setting up enhanced education facilities and methods through sweat equity. It is their hope that their efforts can encourage the people to also help each other.
These are just some of the many international organization that aim to alleviate property. If you want to participate with these endeavors, view their websites to know how you can help.
